Adio Ljeto: Farewell to Summer and Thank You from Restaurant Gariful

It was the year which began with Hvar as Lonely Planet’s number 5 destination for 2012. The sun shone – a lot! – and Hvar enjoyed another very successful season. Tom Cruise went walkabout, Roman Abramovich brought the world’s biggest private yacht into the harbour, and Restaurant Gariful had another successful season, serving the freshest seafood to its many guests.
At the end of the season, as has become a tradition, Gariful – along with other local sponsors – organises a small festival to thank the local community for their help in promoting Hvar tourism. Called ‘Adio Ljeto’ or Farewell to Summer, the festival comes in two parts.
The first is the very popular Kids Day, with attractions ranging from Mickey Mouse to live parachuting onto the main square, which is followed a few days later by a mini-football tournament between the town’s bars and cafes.
Check out this year’s kids day above, and last year’s football tournament below (2012 version available shortly) for a flavour of the Hvar community enjoying life at the end of another busy season.
